Heart of Healing
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (September, 1989)
Authors: Bruce, Ph.D. Davis and Genny Wright Davis
Average review score:

Spiritual Healing, Shamanism and Psychic Surgery
This book, written quite some time ago, is an excellent story of the spiritual meeting of the 2 authors, their apprenticeship with a shaman influenced by many indigenous traditions, and then their initiation into spritual healing amongst humble psychic surgeons and healers in the Philipines. The book is easy-reading and contains basic truths about the path of a healer. It escorts the reader into the unseen dimensions of how spiritual healing happens and why. A Course in Miracles' teachings are interwoven throughout the book, giving spriritual anchor to the spectacular they experienced and witnessed. For anyone interested in healing, learning more about the Philipines psychic surgery and the paranormal, it is a must-read.

Hell: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Ecco (February, 1998)
Author: Kathryn Davis
Average review score:

better than the quoted reviews say
Kathryn Davis' Hell is a magnificent, challenging, dark, challenging book. Melvin Bukheit, in the Washington Post, called it brilliant. The reviews quoted here on line managed to find the only critical review (Kirkus) and to quote the only reservation expressed (in the NYT) at the end of a long, laudatory appreciation of the book. Check it out for yourself!

Henry's Heart

HOOKED ON BRIDGET!
I started with Momma's Purle and couldn't put the book down. Then I brought Retsis for those of you who don't know this is sister spelled backwards. This book hooked me in the beginning of the first chapter. I read the entire book that day without putting it down. I was in the Poconos and read that Briget Davis had another book coming out called Henry's Heart and there was going to be a film at a film festival that she herself is in charge of. I read the book and brought 6 more copies and gave them to friends and told them about the film festival. They too brought book and gave them to friends and family. We at this point have 27 people going to the film festival because Henry's Heart is one of the movies being shown. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!
THANK YOU BRIDGET FOR GIVING US BACK THE GIFT OF READING

Herb Gardening For Dummies®
Published in Paperback by For Dummies (February, 2000)
Authors: Karan Davis Cutler, Kathleen Fisher, National Gardening Association, and Kathleen Fisher

Herb Gardening For Dummies
"Dummies" is bliss. Having recently purchased a home in the city that had a preexisting herb garden was a wonderful extra. What to do, however, if you know nothing about herbs (the 70's notwithstanding)and even less about gardening?

Along comes Herb Gardening For Dummies. Once I learned that dirt under ones nails can actually be sexy (okay, it's the pasta sauce made with fresh crushed basil from your own garden that really scores)the rest is largely downhill...and surprisingly fun.

Written with the same wit and easy to follow guidelines as other Dummy publications, my only complaint is that the book isn't smudgeproof. Dirt washes off hands and knees but isn't nearly as forgiving on the printed page.

Fun, helpful read even if I don't decide to follow Oliver Douglas to Hooterville.

Herndon's Informants: Letters, Interviews, and Statements About Abraham Lincoln
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Pro Ref) (December, 1997)
Authors: Douglas L. Wilson, Rodney O. Davis, and Terry Wilson
Average review score:

A Masterpiece in Scholarship
In the preface to his "Life of Lincoln", William Herndon expounded that when writing the history of Lincoln's early life "the whole truth concerning him should be known" and there should be "nothing colored or suppressed." Having set the standard Herndon failed to follow it, for there were something's even Herndon must have felt should not be put into print. Scholars wishing to explore Lincoln's early life beyond the insights offered by Herndon's biography had to turn to examining the letters and notes collected for over a twenty year period by himself and his collaborator Jesse Weik. This often proved to be a daunting task. As the editor's in their introduction noted even though available on Micro roll film specific documents are "very hard to locate" and even if located are "very hard to read." To further complicate matters the index to the Herndon collection prepared by the Library of Congress is "neither accurate nor complete." What Editors Douglas L. Wilson and Rodney O. Davis have done in their "Herndon's Informants" is to transcribe all of the known Herndon, Weik letters and notes into a readable and properly indexed Documentary Edition. What they have also done is create a masterpiece of scholarship that will be used by students of Lincoln for decades to come. "Herndon's Informants" offers the student the complete Herndon collection, unabridged and un-editorialized. To anyone who has a strong interest in learning more about Lincoln's early life this is just about all that is available and it simply must become a part of your personal library.
